Who we are

Aaron, Jonathon & Kate Bewley, directors of Aaron & Jonathon Bewley Funeral Directors, have almost 50 years’ funeral experience between them and alongside their dedicated team, continue to provide the independent, responsive and inclusive funeral and customer service for which they have won many awards.

They have lived all their lives in and around the communities they support and serve and are honoured to be entrusted with funeral arrangements from many Wiltshire communities – and beyond.

Aaron and Jonathan also benefit from many years’ experience from other members of the family involved in the day-to-day business activity (including Kate, Jonathon’s wife, a talented and creative florist, and Aaron’s wife, Amber, the customer focussed business manager); and of course the wide experience of those who are proud to work with the family as funeral directors, arrangers and those behind the scenes (Angela, Sarah, James and Gemma).  The philosophy of approach of all the team is that “We are people first, funeral directors second”.

Aaron and Jonathon Bewley Funeral Directors continue to operate from the same location as which the Merrett family established their carpentry and building trade in 1843, and for many years, maintained the connection through H(erbert) Merrett whose name the company continued to carry until recently.

Aaron is the third generation of the Bewley family serving the people of Corsham, joining the company in 2001; the funeral directors have provided the same independent excellent of care to the communities of Melksham from 2003 and in Chippenham from 2006 opening local premises better to serve the needs of those communities. Aaron & Jonathon Bewley have helped families from the far reaches of Scotland, the remoteness of parts of Wales, to the tip of Cornwall as well as from overseas, organising funerals in many parts of the United Kingdom.

Aaron follows in his father’s footsteps

Jonathan joined the firm in 1986 at the same time his parents, Denis and Yvonne, acquired H Merretts.  But as the needs of the community have changed, the ethos and outlook of the company have evolved too: the ‘offer’ is certainly a long way from the types of funerals offered to the community by Herbert Merrett – or even Aaron’s grandfather, Dennis.

The transition from a previously traditional business into a contemporary and responsive company, in-tune with changing expectations, has meant the name evolved too.  For a short time, Aaron & Jonathon Bewley Funeral Directors was known as Bewley & Merrett’s Funeral Directors.  Indeed, it was Bewley & Merrett’s who beat fierce national competition to become runners-up in the prestigious 2017 Funeral Awards as Best Modern Funeral Director, the same year that Sarah was named as Most Promising Trainee Funeral Director; they were also winners at the Chippenham Business Awards in 2018 for the Customer Service Award and in the same year winners at the Wiltshire Business Awards for the Customer & Staff Care Award.

But looking to the future, Aaron and Jonathan Bewley are proud to have their name as intrinsically associated with the work they do, reflecting their commitment to individuals at the time of need, and in supporting people to prepare for when the time comes.  All at Aaron & Jonathon Bewley Funeral Directors draw on the heritage of the past alongside their own experiences in the context of changing expectations to provide that independent, responsive and inclusive approach for which they are renowned.
