Review of Leafy Lane Woods

6th July 2023

Lovely review about Leafy Lane Woods, thank you Julian Carosi aka Mr Corsham!

At the beginning of March 2023 I was very kindly given a tour by Aaron Bewley of the ‘Leafy Lane Natural Burial Woods’ alongside the Leafy Lane Playing Fields at the top of Rudloe. The woods (once part of an arboretum belonging to the nearby Rudloe Manor – now the Rudloe Arms hotel) are now a family-owned business (AJB Bewley ) for Aaron Bewley and his parents Kate and Jonathon Bewley.

The Bewley family have created a beautiful place here for natural burial funerals and plots for ash scattering amongst avenues of limes in a wood of larch, hazel, ash, oak, birch and beech trees and Acer Campestre (also known as a Field Maple). An abundance of wildflower meadows have been sown and tree memorials and hedges of Common Hawthorn, Alder Buckthorn, Common Dogwood and other varieties have been planted. It is a place for natural, eco/green and affordable options for your loved ones to be remembered.

There are no headstones to be seen; instead, you will see small natural slates with simple inscriptions hanging from the branches. There are no plastic flowers and nothing unnatural is allowed in the coffin or caskets or on top of the graves. As you wander around, you will come across natural memorials; bird and bat boxes can be seen in the trees along with bug hotels and natural log-piles to support the natural habitat, many with a simple inscription in memory of loved ones. The five beehives here in the woods are managed by a local beekeeper.

“It is a truly peaceful place to go and I know my husband would have loved it there” is just one of many family messages that have been passed to AJB Bewley following the loss on someone dear who now rests in this beautiful spot.

New boundary fences and gates allow easy entrance for walkers and visitors to enjoy the peaceful surroundings. New walkways have been laid down to protect the wildlife and to allow visitors to enjoy the quiet peace amongst the canopy of trees. To ensure that whatever is buried in these woods meets the ethos of being 100% natural and combustible, you will need to use the AJB Bewley funeral directing services.

If you visit, please stay on the paths provided and please don’t leave any litter or small doggy packages!
